Sangna can be meant as  inherent instincts  in all living beings.
They are of four types :
  1. Food and consumption or AAHAAR
  2. Fear and threats or BHAYA
  3. Sexual Intercourse or MAITHUN
  4. Possessiveness and its desire arising there of, or PARIGRAHA
These four exist in all beings in different combinations and intensity, severally or jointly.
An observant mind can perceive that all living beings have the tendency to be evolving in these four subjects, and these only are the topics of discussion involving the mind speech and body among people in general.
Instincts have their own important place in life but one should strive that in 24 hours the involvement of mind speech and body be minimum. This exactly is discipline or ‘Sayama’.
The involvement and the discussion about any of these four instincts is ‘Arta Dhyan’ and ‘Roudra Dhyan’,endeavoring to abstain from them is ‘Dharma Dhyan’, again it also depends on the Five ‘samavaya’.
The hours and moments spent in these four Sangna by mind speech and body will determine the spiritual state of mind which is again part of the 3 guptis.
Thanang Sutra describes 2 types of Nirgranths – Sangna yukta the one who are involved with 4 sangnas.
No sangna yukta where sangnas are absent.
